Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens

We decided to head to the Maryland / DC border to try out a Texas BBQ restaurant. 2Fifty Texas Barbecue was legit – just like the real thing down in Texas! Afterwards, we needed walk around a bit so headed to the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, just a few minutes away on the DC side. Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens is part of the larger Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens, a unit of the National Park Service.

DC Cherry Blossoms, Again

We headed down again to Washington DC today and once again viewed the cherry blossoms. While the weather was a bit cool, it was quite pleasant though unfortunately the sky was overcast. Overall, quite a few of the cherry blossoms have fallen from the trees already, perhaps because of the cool and rainy weather yesterday. Some of the trees that were a bit late in blooming have progressed, but there are still quite a few unopened buds on many of the trees. We think maybe the cooler weather is slowing things down a bit.

National Cherry Blossom Festival

Peak bloom was declared two days ago by the National Park Service, a few days earlier than anticipated due to warmer than usual temperatures in the region. Due to the ongoing pandemic, none of the usual festival events are taking place this year. We arrived in the morning a bit after sunrise today and ended up spending a long time trying to find parking. Luckily, despite the parking challenges, the Tidal Basin wasn’t very busy at all. And we were pleased to discover that despite recent high winds and heavy rains, the cherry blossoms haven’t been impacted at all!
